The Autonomics Tour is taking shape
Over the next couple of years I am going to be teaching and training internationally and here in California a great deal. We are continuing to organize tour dates, destinations, and topics of inquiry, so see if we are coming to your neck of the woods, and teaching something you might be interested in. All of these retreats are relatively small and curated. They are typically capped at between 12 and 15 practitioners and are generally highly trans-disciplinary. I’m doing a ton of podcasts and publicity over the next several months, so the audience for our work will be growing. If you know you are interested, this is a really good time to apply for these.
The first step in each of them is an expression of interest. We’d like to start out by making sure you are not nuts, as much of the world moves off the rails. My objective over the next couple of years is to capacitize as many people internationally with autonomics skills as we can, because you’re going to need them ;)
I want to work with people we can successfully train, which generally means that you are going to need to already have some background in mindfulness and embodiment work. While there are other people on our training teams interested in working with beginners, that is not my forté. I want to work with people who already have some foundation in these areas, for whom these retreats can function as a force multiplier, and integrate with what you are already doing.
Typically we will be training here in California in the spring and fall, and then traveling broadly internationally over the summer. In summer of 2025, I will be teaching in France, Italy, and possibly a third European location. Later in the summer I’ll be teaching in Kauai. In summer 2026 I am planning to teach in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the Philippines. You can see all published tour dates here.
Here are current retreats for which you can put in an expression of interest. We are hoping to complete registration for the spring California and summer European tour dates in the next couple of months. At present, there are still spaces in the following trainings.
April 23-27, 2025: Deep Restorative for Practitioners with Marcia Miller. Marcia and I have been friends and colleagues for several years. This retreat is focused on deep restoration for wellness practitioners. Particularly in roles where we engage in deep use of self, and where client acuity is increasing due to elevated ambient threat, learning to engage in deep self-care is crucial for practitioners. We will apply a movement and autonomics lens to the possibilities of deep restoration for five days. Marcia and I will be in conversation February 21 in a free event if you’d like to catch the vibe.
Visionary Neuroscience April 30- May 6 is full.
May 16-18, 2025: The Neurobiology of Connection. I’m teaching a 3-day training on the new book in California. You’ll read the book before arriving. On day one, we will deep-dive experientially into the foundation model of Autonomics. On days two and three we will focus on tracking autonomic physiology, and evoking connection states. This is a retreat for wellness practitioners and coaches wanting to implement an autonomics lens in your practice.
In late May I leave for France. We are contemplating adding a second retreat in France. If we do that it will take place in the southwest of the country, at a farmhouse near Cancon, in Lot et Garonne. This will likely be a 3-day training on The Neurobiology of Connection from May 28-30. If you are in Europe, and would be interested in this training please send us an email to support@restorativepractices.com with ‘France retreat May 2025’ in the subject line and we’ll contact you as soon as we schedule the retreat.
The Neurobiology of Connection June 2-4 is full.
From June 8-14 I will be leading a retreat in Florence on the Social Cartography of Genius. You can learn more about the project here.
We are looking at the social alchemy required to birth collective genius. I feel like we’ve mapped, pretty definitively, the cartography of the drivers of individual wellbeing. What we are interested in exploring in this project is how to create collectives that unleash collective genius. This has a neurophysiological component to be sure, and there are other elements in the alchemy. We are using the Florentine Renaissance as one model of this. We are also looking at Black Mountain College, the Chelsea Hotel in NYC in the seventies and eighties, and several other case studies. The retreat will take place at a farmhouse in Tuscany. It should have a very interesting guestlist. Some of the retreat sessions we will broadcast externally. If you are interested in joining us remotely, you can obtain remote access to sessions here.
If you’d like to be one of the participants in the retreat, the expression of interest…
In August I travel to the island of Kauai, where I’ll be teaching on the phenomenology of healing. This may or may not happen with a co-teacher. Kauai is the garden island, a place of extraordinary and pristine natural beauty. I’ll be teaching from both The Neurobiology of Connection, and the forthcoming Hearth Science: Phenomenology of an Embodied Neuroscience, which will be out in paperback by then.
In October I’m teaching an interoceptive tracking retreat designed to help practitioners develop grounded interoception, and refine their ability to track autonomic state in self and others. This will take place in California from October 15-19, 2025.
