Top 10 reasons you should join me for 'Finding Home in Your Nervous System' on Saturday April 25
Saturday April 25, 8-11 am Pacific Time
Your autonomic nervous system is talking to you all the time. Its primary mode of communication manifests as the way that you feel. Whether you feel at ease, regulated, available to connect…or defended, confrontational, anxious, withdrawn or shutdown is determined by the ANS. The primary texture of your daily lived experience is governed by the Autonomic Nervous System. Wouldn’t you like to speak its language?
The language of your deep nervous system is not your spoken language. It is not English, Dutch, French, or Italian. The deep nervous system communicates with you through sensation, emotion, and embodied memory. It shapes your visceral state, your emotional range, how you think, how you perceive the world around you, and then your behavior.
Most people don’t have a map for understanding the fundamental organizing principles of the Autonomic Nervous System
If your map for this was Polyvagal Theory– well, it has sustained a fundamental challenge. (I’ve been vigorously involved in the public debate, working to make sure that the baby doesn’t get thrown out with the bathwater. I have consulted with the leadership of the Polyvagal Institute about it. You can read my essay TENABLE: RECONCILING POLYVAGAL THEORY WITH THE UTILITY OF THE GROSSMAN CRITIQUE about the debate here, view Hearth Science’s public statement about the controversy here, and download our distilled bulletpoints for practitioners here.) Hearth Science has well over a decade of rigorous application of PVT across trauma healing, somatic practice, and psychology. I worked closely with PVT Developer Stephen W. Porges, PhD for several years. We find it a work of substantial merit — yet have identified clinically observable gaps in its explanatory reach.
Some of these gaps are fundamental errors in neuroscience itself, which was organized in a brain-centric culture and assembled from necrotic anatomy (the study of cadavers). Unlike a cadaver, you are not dead. Wouldn’t you like to learn the anatomy of your LIVING nervous system?
Once you understand the principles of this living map, and how it constructs autonomic states, which are the energy-processing templates that your body uses to process experience, you can learn to have agency in shaping the neurological inputs to these systems.
Most people think the autonomic nervous system is inaccessible because the neurology is deep within us, but although the ANS is the deepest substrate of your nervous system, you can learn to interact with it directly. Teaching this is at the very heart of our expertise. We call it autonomic tracking.
The part of yourself that makes autonomic decisions about which energy-processing templates to surface (availability, defense, shutdown) is not your ordinary egoic sense of self. We can introduce you to this deeper autonomic self and help you learn to work with it, rather than against (or oblivious to) it.
This work will have an immediate impact on your quality of life. Like, right away. Because…
As far as we can tell, the world isn’t getting any simpler. And, as the surfers say, “You cannot stop the waves, but you can learn to ride them more skillfully.”
Join me, Natureza Gabriel, Founder of Hearth Science, and Developer of Autonomics for a special 3-hour non-technical introduction to our work: Finding Home in Your Nervous System.
Learn autonomics.
